Greyt News of the Week - 3/13/08
GREYT NEWS OF THE WEEK – March 13, 2008

Sorry there was no GNOTW last week! Mom had a family emergency, but all is better in now. In fact, she is writing this week from New York City!

ADOPTIONS AND FOSTERING

We have four lucky hounds (over the last two weeks) with new homes! Congratulations to Renee, Jet, Carrie and Beau Jo. It is a blessing that we have so many wonderful foster families, adoption coordinators and families welcoming these sweet greys into their homes.

On the fostering front, we currently have 26 hounds in foster care. We are always in need of other loving foster families!

In general, we are in SERIOUS need of fosters without cats! The good majority of our current active fosters have cats! There are many dogs waiting in the kennels for months, and the only reason that they can't come in is because they can't live with cats. We need fosters without cats so that more of the wonderful dogs waiting to start their new lives can come in. While we can use new fosters of any type, we REALLY NEED FOSTERS WITHOUT CATS! Thank you so much for considering these fostering opportunities! Your participation directly allows us to help more greyhounds find their forever homes!
Rori Mattson

The first step to bringing in retired racers from the kennels is having an available foster family to teach them the important
lessons about enjoying life in a home and becoming cherished members of a family! If you know anyone who would enjoy fostering greyhounds, please have them contact Beth Morgan, CGA's foster set-up coordinator, at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or you may access plenty of greyt information about fostering from the CGA website at www.greyhoundadoption.com/foster. With so many greys waiting to begin their lives as pad potatoes and learn important life lessons, we can use every volunteer's help in recruiting their friends, family, co-workers, etc. to become foster families.

BOARD ELECTIONS

The Annual Board Elections were held on Sunday, March 9th, and the following Board Members were elected to run another term:

Rori Mattson – Vice President
Mark McKay – Treasurer
Jennifer Zanella – Board Member-at-Large
Clark Sonderby – Board Member-at-Large
Jody Laughlin – Board Member-at-Large

Members at the meeting were asked to give their opinions about what they felt CGA did really well in the past year. Here are a few of the answers:

*The volunteer base is stronger than ever and continues to grow.

*Our new website is great, stays current, and is very interactive.

*Senior dogs are getting adopted quickly because of the SOS Coordinator's, the Adoption Counselors' and the website's efforts. (It's really because the secret is out on how wonderful senior dog are).

*We've been able to handle all the relinquishments that have come in over the last year.

*CGA community is key. We are not just a strong group of adopters but a strong group of people who enjoy helping each other.

Quick Fact: The Procurement Team cat tested 261 dogs in the 2007 fiscal year, and of those 261 dogs, 168 dogs were brought into foster homes. The remaining dogs were either taken in by other adoption groups or are still on our available list.

That's it for this week. Love your hounds!
